Have not tried using any electrical contact cleaner yet, but will do so later. The 13-inch Pro has been given a nice refresh with updated processors. The inside is the same story, but the next chapter. I have opened the case and unplugged, inspected (seeing nothing of note) the cable, replugged, and closed the case. According to the early 2015 macbook pro retinas specs found here, the hdmi on my unit can support three separate resolutions at differing hertz: Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz. The MacBook Pro 'Core i5' 2.7 13-Inch (Early 2015 Retina Display) features a 14 nm 'Broadwell' 2.7 GHz Intel 'Core i5' processor (5257U), with dual independent processor 'cores' on a single silicon chip, a 3 MB shared level 3 cache, 8 GB of onboard 1866 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (which could be upgraded to 16 GB at the time of purchase, but cannot be. A couple drops of rain may have gotten on it, not soaked just a couple/few drops - nothing else was affected (eg isight works). Brightness controls work, just nothing happens with the screen.

One night I had an external hooked up via HDMI, watching a movie or something, turned my brightness all of the way down, and the next day my screen would not come on, but works perfectly with external.
I am having a similar, but not exactly the same, problem: I get no backlighting (apple logo does not light up), and shining a light through it does not show anything.
